Already the winningest coach in Sewanee athletic history, Tiger Women's Tennis Head Coach Conchie Shackelford earned career win No. 500, Sunday, as No. 14 Sewanee defeated No. 23 Mary Washington, 6-3.

The Tigers are now 10-3 overall with ranked wins over Mary Washington, No. 11 DePauw, No. 22 Redlands, and No. 12 Case Western. In fact, Sewanee's only losses have come against No.

1 Johns Hopkins, No. 7 Carnegie Mellon, and a long six-hour match against No. 11 Washington & Lee.

The Tigers won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles as the teams of Bronte Goodhue and Lindsey Liles (8-4) along with Annie Veron and Maggie Crumbliss (8-1) all earned victories.

Up 2-1 to start singles Liles won at No. 1 (6-2, 6-2), Goodhue at No. 2 (6-0, 6-1), Crumbliss at No. 4 (6-4, 6-1), and Clementina Davila at No. 5 (7-5, 6-4).

Sewanee has now won five straight matches heading back into Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play next weekend.

With a career record of 500-183, Shackelford, who became the Tiger Head Coach in 1987, has guided Sewanee to a 73.2 winning percentage. In fact, Shackelford has led Sewanee to 28 straight winning seasons, which is also the most in school history. The Tigers also had a streak of 15 straight seasons with a top-15 national ranking (1988-2002).

That included leading the 2007 Tigers to a final national ITA ranking of No. 3, which was also the best team finish in the Athletic Department's long history. Under Shackelford, Sewanee has finished as an ITA national ranked team for 27 straight seasons.

Always about her players, Shackelford has guided Sewanee scholar-athletes to numerous national and conference awards both on and off the court.

Additionally, her teams have earned four WIAC championships to go along with two SCAC and SAA Championships.
