The City of Chattanooga’s Department of Economic and Community Development is hosting its first graduation ceremony for Neighborhood University participants Friday, 5:30-7 p.m. at the Development Resource Center, 1250 Market St.
Neighborhood University aims to strengthen leadership and community building skills by providing specialized training. It’s designed to increase the capacity of neighborhood leaders and potential leaders of community-based organizations. In its first year graduates participated in six sessions and a total of 48 hours of classes on topics including community organizing, intergenerational planning and coalition-building.
Instructors from NeighborWorks Training Institute, based in Washington, D.C., facilitated the sessions.
Local participants from 32 neighborhood organizations attended Neighborhood University which began last June and ran through January. On Friday they will be recognized for their commitment to the training and for completing the program. The event is free and open to the public.
