The Chattanooga Mocs run of five straight Southern Conference women’s golf championships and four consecutive medalists ended Tuesday at Savannah Quarters Country Club. Chattanooga finished runner-up to Furman marking a top two ending in seven SoCon Championships in a row.

“It's sad to see our streak end, but you have to give credit to Furman,” coach Colette Murray noted. “Our score would have won any other year when you look at the record books, just not this one.”

The Mocs 54-hole total of 880 would have stood as the tourney’s record had it not been for the Paladins’ 6-under 858.

“I believe there is a difference between losing and getting beat,” Murray added. “This week we just got beat.”

Emily McLennan and Agathe Sauzon continued an impressive three-year run finishing third and tied for fourth, respectively. McLennan has finished in the top 5 each year, winning in 2014, while Sauzon has two top 5’s (2013 champion) and three top 10’s.

McLennan shot a career-best 214 (-2) to tie for third. She closed with a 73 (+1) today, one behind Sauzon’s 72. Sauzon tied for fourth at even-par 216. It’s her top 54-hole total since a 3-under 210 effort winning the 2013 Starmount Fall Classic.

Cris Perez tied for 18th, her second top 20 in as many weeks. Her score of 225 was two better than fellow freshman Megan Woods who tied for 21st at 227. Isabella Loza tied for 28th at 229.

Furman was led by medalist Taylor Totland. Her final card of 4-under 68 gave her a tourney record with an 8-under total of 208 which was four better than teammate Alice Chen in second at 212. Samford finished third at 881.

“I'm proud of our effort,” Murray concluded. “This was our best 54-hole total this season. Our veterans played well and our freshmen showed they were up to the challenge. I'm disappointed with finishing second, but not in our ladies.”
