UTC Starting Strong Safety Suspended After Picking Up Shoplifting Charge

Cedric Nettles, a rising junior who was the starting strong safety for the Mocs football team last season, has been suspended indefinitely after picking up a shoplifting charge.

Nettles, 20, was charged after an incident at the Signal Mountain Road Walmart on March 26.

Police said he "was observed at self check out skip scanning $45.04 worth of merchandise. Mr. Nettles exited out of the grocery doors passing all points of sale with no intentions of paying for the unpaid for merchandise."

Store personnel said he placed an LG DVD player and grocery items in Walmart plastic shopping bags.

He was charged with theft under $500 and cited to court.

His court date is May 6 before Judge David Bales.
