UTC Falls To South Alabama 11-1 In NCAA Opener

  • Friday, May 15, 2015
The Chattanooga Mocs softball team fell to South Alabama in the opening game of the NCAA Auburn Regional, 11-1 in five innings on Friday afternoon at Jane B. Moore Stadium.

“There is not a coach, player or team that has not experienced that type of loss. It happens, head coach Frank Reed said.” We gave (South Alabama) the momentum in the first inning. We hit the home run and turned around to make two errors in the first inning. They took the momentum and ran with it.”
The Mocs will look to redeem themselves tomorrow at 2:30 CT against the losing team of the Auburn/ Tennessee Tech match up.

Chattanooga 1, South Alabama 11
Sarah Beth Roberts came out swinging as she blasted her 11th homerun of the season over the left field wall, to put the Mocs up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

With a Chattanooga lead and Mocs on first and second, South Alabama relieved starting pitcher Farish Beard with Devin Brown, five batters into the opening frame.
Brown proved affective as she left Anyssa Robles swinging for the third out.

South Alabama responded with two hits while two Chattanooga fielding errors allowed the Jaguars to cash in those hits for runs in the bottom of the first.
Leading 2-1, USA would load the bases in the bottom of the second and cushion its lead with 4 runs.

Keeping the Mocs unproductive at the bat, South Alabama would only add to its lead with three runs in the third and two runs in the fourth, claiming the game 11-1 in four and a half innings.

Brown, who fanned eight strikeouts for 4.1 innings pitched, garnered the win, improving to 11-4, while Taylor Deason took the loss, falling to 15-6.
