Click here for video of Mr. Crenshaw’s opening statement. A full transcript of Corker’s introduction follows: Mr. Chairman, I want to thank you for having this hearing today. In this case, in particular, I know Senator Alexander and I typically are at these types of hearings sometimes out of respect, but today I can tell you it is out of genuine support. I, in a very unqualified way, support both of these candidates. I want to thank the White House, in this particular case, for going through the process in such a way to have such distinguished candidates. Mr. Crenshaw is someone that I do not know personally. I know of him professionally. I know of his tremendous civic service and community service. I know of his humility. I can tell you that as I talk to people throughout the legal community, many of which are behind us here today, in an unqualified way, just the way that he has conducted himself throughout his life, they are very, very supportive of this [and] very excited to have someone of this caliber potentially serving Middle Tennessee, and I thank you very much for having this hearing. Travis McDonough is someone that I know personally. He also has people with him today, from Chattanooga, who support him greatly. His family is here. We were with them earlier. Travis is one of those people who you just love to see something like this happen to – his humility, the background from which he came, the way that he conducts himself. Mr. Chairman [Senator Perdue], I have gotten to know you very well. I recruited you heavily to be on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and am glad that you are there. I’ve gotten to know the humbleness with which you serve and the way that the three of us know what a great privilege it is to be in public service. I think all of these candidates are of that same ilk. They look at this as a tremendous privilege and honor to be able to serve their state and their country in this fashion. I know that I’ve talked to you personally about both of these candidates and my sense is the committee, with flying colors, will pass them out. I am here to support them wholeheartedly. I thank you for this hearing. I think you will find their testimony before you to be very, very good. I certainly hope that we promptly put [them] in these outstanding positions that they deserve. Thank you very much.
