Two Dalton State men’s golfers are among just 17 in the country who have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon all-America Scholars for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Dustin Roberts, deputy director of the Golf Coaches Association of America, named Levi Nix and Chase Jones as recipients of the honor. “To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 77 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2,” announced Roberts. “A recipient must also be of good moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.”
“I am extremely proud of Levi and Chase,” said Roadrunner Coach Ben Rickett. “It shows that these two are able to maintain excellence on the course and in the classroom. Time is something that these student do not have a lot of and they make the most of it to excel in these two aspects of their lives.”
Roadrunner Tyler Mitchell received the honor last year. In addition to excelling in the classroom, Dalton State enters the fall season as the defending Southern States Athletic Conference Champions.
Four additional SSAC golfer were recognized. Hunter Cornelius from Heritage High in Ringgold was the only All-America Scholar from Coastal Georgia. Hunter Fikes and Hrafn Gudlaugsson represent Faulkner.
