Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

South Crest Road Bridge repair project over I-24 (between MM 182.3 – 182.4) and East Main Street (Mid-State Construction Co, Inc.):  Work on this major bridge repair project on the South Crest Road Bridge over I-24 and East Main Street in Chattanooga continues. During the project, the bridge itself is closed, as well as the section of East Main Street beneath the bridge, while the contractor removes and replaces the bridge deck on the portion of the bridge directly overhead.  Detours will be posted for the duration of the project.  Additionally, there will be times during the project when work will require temporary lane closures on I-24 beneath the South Crest Road Bridge.  These interstate lane closures will only be allowed at nighttime on Sundays through Thursdays between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.  If weather allows, the contractor will have lane closures on I-24 East and West beneath the bridge during this report period for the safety of the traveling public as the contractor works overhead.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary during interstate lane closures.  Estimated project completion date is August.  [Mid-State Construction Co, Inc./Micka/CNN294] 

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Road/Boulevard):  This project is complete and the contractor is addressing punchlist items.  Estimated project completion date is July.  [Wright Brothers Construction Co., Inc./Micka/CNK233] 

SR 317 (Apison Pike) the grading, drainage and paving on from Old Lee Highway (LM 5.58) to SR-321 (Ooltewah-Ringgold Road) (LM 7.84):  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be working on storm drains, conduits and grade work.  The contractor may have short term lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is May 2017. SR-320 (East Brainerd Rd.) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in both directions on East Brainerd Road between Kinsey Drive and Fuller Road to perform utility work. This work will require installing road crossings and boring underneath the roadway.  The contractor may have short-term lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is June 2017. Shepherd Road over SR-153 construction of a rolled steel girder bridge from West Shepherd Rd. to Shaw Avenue in Chattanooga, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  On Monday through Thursday, there will be a nighttime double lane closure on SR-153 North at the Shepherd Road intersection each evening from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. to allow the contractor to position a crane.  Lanes affected will be the #1 and #2 lanes in NB direction.  At least one lane will remain open during this work.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary on the project.  Estimated project completion is October 2016.  [Jones Brothers Contractors, Inc./Micka/CNP105] 

SR-317 (Bonny Oaks Drive) resurfacing from SR-17 (LM 0.00 near Hillcrest Elementary School) to west of Silverdale Road (LM 4.47):  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area from 6 p.m.-4:30 a.m. to place shoulder stone and final striping.  One lane of traffic will be open at all times.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is September. SR-153 resurfacing from east of Grubb Road (LM 10.85) to U.S. 27 (SR-29, LM 12.87):  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays for paving operations.  One lane of traffic will be open at all times.  THP will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is September. SR-317 (Bonny Oaks Drive) improvement of the intersection with Volkswagen Drive (LM 3.85) serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be on Volkswagen Drive working on the entrance and exit driveways to and from Amazon.  The contractor may have short term lane closures on eastbound Bonny Oaks Drive at Volkswagen Drive to perform various operations on as-needed basis.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is December.  [Talley Construction Company, Inc. /Pruett/CNN304] 

The tunnel cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on U.S. 11 (US 64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on U.S. 127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on U.S. 41 (U.S. 76, SR-8):  The nighttime cleaning operation of McCallie Tunnels, Stringers Ridge Tunnel, and Bachman Tubes may occur during this report period as necessary. Work hours are between 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Tunnels will be closed during cleaning, and detours will be marked accordingly as each tunnel is cleaned.  Contract completion date is June 2016.  [Diamond Specialized, Inc./Micka/CNP212]
