Everett Roberts
Everett B. Roberts ,Jr., 80, of Signal Mountain, died on July 31, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett B. Roberts, Sr., and Perry Leah Stone Roberts, and his sisters Harriett London and Peg Weidman.
Mr. Roberts is survived by Vivian Harmon Roberts, daughters, Jean Rayhle, Carol Chesnutt (Mark), Anna Roberts, and grandchildren, Meg, Kate and Whit Chesnutt, stepchildren, Collins Meigs, Julie Piper (Perry), Cheri Mead (Marc), Mark Meigs (Molly), along with grandchildren Tyler, Sydney and Ella Meigs.
The Roberts’ family was a founding member of Tennessee Consolidated Coal Company in Grundy County, where he spent his youth. Throughout his life, Mr. Roberts looked for ways to help his community through positions on the board of Tennessee Foundation of Independent Colleges, Hamilton County Juvenile Court Commissions, and as a trustee of Baylor School and Vanderbilt University. After forty years’ of service on the Moccasin Bend Girl Scouts Council, the regional Council Center is named the Everett Roberts Service Center, in honor of his contributions to scouting. Mr. Roberts was the first male president of the Council and was instrumental in the development of Girl Scout Camp Adahi.
A life-long donor, and fifty-year of Grand Lodge #45, Mr. Roberts also retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the Signal Mountain Church of Christ and retired from provident as vice president of Life and Accident. He lived a selfless life of dedication, volunteerism and concern for others, always asking, “What can I do for you?”
Chattanooga Funeral Home North has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. Visitation will be from 5-7p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, at the funeral home.
The service will take place Saturday morning, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. in the Baylor Chapel.
Dr. Herb Barks will be officiating. Jeff Roueche and members of the Roueche Chorale will honor Everett by performing during the service.
Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Army.
Honorary pallbearers are Howell Clements, Norman Thomas, Earl Roberts, Jack London, Kevin London, and Lee London. A family gathering will take place afterward at the Roberts’ home.
