Funeral Will Be Saturday For McCallie Graduate Who Died In Wreck At Athens, Tn.

  • Tuesday, August 4, 2015

The funeral will be Saturday for Riley Patrick Scott, a 2010 McCallie School graduate who died in a wreck near Athens, Tn., last Wednesday. He was 24.

He was traveling northbound around 1:06 p.m. near mile marker 48 when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree after going into the median.

The vehicle was on fire with the driver still inside when state troopers arrived.

His obituary says he "will be fondly remembered for his easy-going demeanor and a ready smile that sparkled through his crystal blue eyes. Riley was a loving son, brother and soon to be uncle.  One couldn't ask for a better cousin, nephew  or friend.  His personality was infectious.   He was always ready for a laugh, story or adventure. In a very unassuming way Riley could light up a room just by being himself. Without effort, he was always the life of the party."

Upon graduation from McCallie, he attended East Tennessee State University. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

He completed an internship at Walt Disney World  where he made friends from all over the world.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

He is survived by his parents,  Lillian (Dearing) and Marvin Scott,  brother Ryan (Beth Ann) and sister Becca Weaver (Jeremiah) and grandparents Bill and Jill Walsh and Beverley Robinson.

The funeral mass will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at OLPH Church on 501 South Moore Road. There will be a celebration of "The life of Riley" from 12:30 to 3 p.m.. in the Parish Life Center.

His obituary says, "Please bring your favorite stories of Riley to share or post on Facebook.  Feel free to dress casually for the celebration."

A private burial will be at a later time. In lieu of flowers please make a tax-deductible donation to FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students in honor of Riley Patrick Scott.
