Newcomer Aly Hall had the match-clincher in singles play to help the Covenant women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over Snead State in the 2015-16 season opener.
The contest was the only dual match scheduled for the fall portion of the year.
Covenant is set to open the spring on Feb. 13 against Birmingham Southern.
Hall, a transfer from Army, picked up her first win as a Lady Scot by defeating Snead State's Alesha Triplett 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 position to clinch the win for Covenant. Annie DeLuca was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Katy Boles at the No. 2 spot, while Claire Luger won 6-0, 6-3 over Alexis Daniels at the No. 3 slot. Gracie Smith was the fourth Covenant winner in singles play as she took down Olivia Sharpton 6-3, 6-4.
Covenant trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but used those four victories in singles play to rally for the win. The combination of Luger and Smith at the top doubles position earned an 8-1 win over Hannah Mathis and Morgan Thompson.

Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox combined for three of Covenant's points. The duo played at No. 1 doubles and defeated Matt Wade and Paul Taylor of Gadsden State 8-1. In singles play, Harvie bested Wade 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 1 position, while Cox was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at the No. 2 spot over Kevin Triplett.
Freshman Luke Bynum accounted the fourth Covenant point as he defeated Jacob McAllister 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Bynum and Dan Madden fell 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, while John Granholm fell 7-5, 6-1 to Kyle Cavender at No. 4 singles.
Both the men's and women's team will compete in the ITA Regionals starting on Friday, Sept. 25. The event will be held in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
