Covenant's Smith Named Rookie of the Week

With an impressive display over two games last week, Covenant women's basketball freshman Joanna Smith (Chattanooga, Tenn./Chattanooga Christian) picked up her third USA South Rookie of the Week honor of the season, announced the conference on Monday.

Smith was also honored with Rookie of the Week on Nov. 23 and Dec. 7.

The 5-foot-8 freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., averaged 16.5 points, 14 rebounds, 3.5 assists and two steals per game as Covenant went 1-1 on the week. She tallied 13 points with 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 70-46 loss to Piedmont on Tuesday.
Smith then went for 20 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and two steals in a 74-70 victory over Huntingdon on Saturday. 

On the year, Smith leads the team with 10.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Her rebounding average is second-best in the USA South and she is one of two players in the league that is currently averaging a double-double. Smith has five double-doubles this season and six games of at least 10 rebounds.
