Mocs Tennis Teams Earn Wins at UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team added six more wins on the second day of the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic at the Champions Club.  The Mocs went 3-2 in singles and 3-1 in doubles action today.

Junior Samantha Caswell had a strong, three-set victory against MTSU's Alory Pereira (6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (6)).  She also teamed with senior Rachele Gazzola for a 6-1 doubles victory against the Blue Raiders. 

Sophomore Caroline Hall opened the day with her (6-0, 6-1) victory against Jacksonville State's Malin Buechner.  She closed it by teaming with sophomore Mckenzie Barco for a doubles victory against Kennesaw State.

Sophomore Sydney Patton had the other singles win.  She teamed with sophomore Delaney Edwardsfor the third doubles victory. 

Next up for the Mocs is the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Oct. 21-14.

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga freshman men’s tennis player Simon Bustamante won the No. 2 singles draw at the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic at the Champions Club today.  He won his third singles match to lead the Mocs. 
 
Bustamante, a native of Guayaquil, Ecuador, won a tough three-setter to take the bracket today.  He defeated Mercer’s Nicolas Guillon (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) in a marathon.  Junior Michael Birnbaum posted the other singles win for UTC today.  Birnbaum and freshman Max Grobbelaar also had a doubles victory against Mercer.
 
Next up for the Mocs is the ITA Ohio Valley Regional at Tennessee on Oct. 20-23.
