Lookout Mountain, Ga., Sets Public Hearings On 10% Property Tax Hike

The city of Lookout Mountain, Ga., has set several public hearings on a proposed 10 percent increase in the property tax rate.
 
Officials said all concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the Lookout Mountain City Hall, 1214 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, Ga., on Thursday at 5 p.m.
 

Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase are at the Lookout Mountain City Hall on Oct. 25 at 8 a.m. and at 6 p.m.

A public hearing on Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. will be combined with a meeting of the Lookout Mountain City Council at which the the council will be setting the millage rate.

The increase will result in a millage rate of 9.050 mills, an increase of .882 mills.  Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 8.168 mills. 

The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $246,000 is approximately $113. For an $80,000 home, it would be $21.90.
