  • Tuesday, October 18, 2016

A fiery accident that happened Monday morning involving a Whitfield County sheriff deputy resulted in three people taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol said that a Whitfield deputy was transporting two inmates to the Lee Arrendale Prison, when he apparently did not yield at a stop sign on Georgia State Route 42.  The deputy's vehicle struck a Dodge pickup that was towing a toy-hauler camper that detached from the truck as a result of the impact.  There were two people in the Dodge truck.

The deputy's vehicle caught fire and the deputy and the two inmates were transported to Northwest Georgia Medical Center.

Police said no one has been charged in the accident.
