Many children and adults with craniofacial disorders live with shame, fear, and doubt. Often they feel that they must hide behind a mask. That’s why FACES: The National Craniofacial Association created FACES UnMasked, an art event and auction.
Masks and artwork have been created by local artists, celebrities, and personalities who have donated their time and talent to make it easier for FACES clients and families to get the help they need. Proceeds from the mask auction will directly help fund the financial assistance program that enables children to travel for life-changing reconstructive surgeries and treatment.
FACES UnMasked will take place on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5:30-8 p.m. at The Church on Main. It will be an evening with original art, UnMasked artists, food and adult beverages, games for prizes, and more. One highlight of the event will be the silent auction of masks and artwork.
The special guest will be Elena Schefer, a spunky 12-year-old with Goldenhar Syndrome who recently appeared on TLC’s reality show “Two in a Million". On the show she met Austin Niehus, another child with Goldenhar. She and Austin became friends and launched an anti-bullying campaign together to show others the importance of being more sensitive to children with craniofacial differences and their families. FACES has been helping Elena and her family cover travel expenses for the many corrective surgeries she has endured over the past 11 years. Elena will be appearing with her service dog, Tuku, and her mom, Amy Schefer. Proceeds from the event will benefit FACES and allow them to continue to serve craniofacial families around the United States.
