Ninth-starting Dale McDowell of Chickamauga overtook race-long pacesetter Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y. on the 43rd circuit of the 60-lap Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned Dixie Shootout Saturday night. "McDaddy" went on to capture the $12,000 top prize, his second such payday of the 2016 season, equaling a payday from Martville, Tn. earlier this season.
South Georgia's Brandon Overton started 13th and finished fourth behind McDowell's #17M Team Dillon Racing/Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis, sponsored by ECR Engines, Clements Race Engines, Boyd-bilt Fabrication, Bad Boy Off Road, University of Northwestern Ohio, Klotz Synthetic Lubricants, Cometic Gaskets, Keyser Manufacturing, and Mark IV ATV's.
With his third-place finish, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tn., captured his third career Lucas Oil Series Championship.despite three races remaining in 2016. Kentucky's Darrell Lanigan rounded out the Top 5 finishers Saturday night at Dixie Speedway.
McDowell honored his mother's memory Saturday night in Victory Lane.
McDowell won his other two "Dixie Shootout's" in 1999 and 2001.
In Crate Late Model competition Chattanooga's Bobby Richey Jr. was the winner of the 20-lap feature.
Sunday night at Dixie's sister track in Rome, Ga., Bloomquist dominated the $10,000 season finale "Showdown" for the 1/2 mile clay oval.
Next weekend the UCRA Crate series kicks off a three day season finale "Invitational" event at Fort Payne, Ala. Motor Speedway Thursday-Saturday.
