A McCallie School student who has been in need of a new heart has undergone a successful transplant at Vanderbilt Hospital.
The family of Will Hunt said his new heart was beating on its own after an eight-hour surgery overnight.
The surgery began at 2 a.m. and he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit for recovery by 10 a.m.
He is a graduate of Bright School, which was collecting donations for the Hunt family and organizing a Thanksgiving dinner for them at the hospital.
The 16-year-old earlier gained attention through a video of him singing at the hospital.
