Dalton Man Arrested After Tuesday Morning Shooting

  • Friday, November 18, 2016

After an early morning shooting on Tuesday, the Dalton Police Department arrested Thomas Kyle Williams, 34, on Thursday on numerous charges including aggravated assault. The shooting victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and has already been released from the hospital.

Officers were called to the intersection of Tyler Street and Chattanooga Road at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday with a report of a man with a gunshot wound. When they arrived, Dennis Richard Green, 42, of Dalton reported that he had been shot in a drive-by shooting. Green told officers that an “older muscle car” had driven by him and he heard what he thought was the vehicle backfiring, and then he realized he’d been shot in the abdomen.

Officers investigating the case soon found several inconsistencies with Green’s story and determined that the shooting could not have happened how Green said it did. Officers and detectives were able to determine that the shooting actually took place at the house at 604 Luckie Street after an argument between Green and Thomas Kyle Williams, possibly regarding drugs. Dalton officers served a search warrant at the house on Thursday afternoon and recovered a .380 handgun believed to be the weapon used in the shooting and other evidence of the crime. Williams was arrested without incident at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Williams is charged with aggravated assault with a gun, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and possession of methamphetamine. Another man, Jason Freeman, 34, was at the house at 604 Luckie Street when officers executed the search warrant and was arrested but he is not considered a suspect in the shooting. Freeman was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

This incident is still being investigated and further charges are possible. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Detective Scott Murray at 706-278-9085, dial 9 and enter extension 148 or call the anonymous tip line at 706 278-9085, dial 9 and enter extension 221.
