School of Religion Dean Dr. Terry Cross, left, presents the 2016 SOR Distinguished Alumnus Award to Nation at a department breakfast during Homecoming
During a department breakfast at Lee’s Homecoming, H. Frank Nation III was awarded the 2016 School of Religion Distinguished Alumnus Award.
“Dr. Nation represents what we hope for all of our majors, namely, that they leave Lee’s School of Religion with the knowledge base and academic tools for success in whatever field they choose, whether pastoral ministry, scholarly pursuits, chaplaincy, or a host of other occupations that help to express the Kingdom of God here and now,” said Dr. Skip Jenkins, chair of Lee’s Department of Theology.
Mr. Nation used his training from Lee’s SOR to inform his advanced degree choices, all of which prepared him for his vocational ministry as a hospital chaplain. He received his chaplaincy board certification in 2004 and continued his training to become one of the first Church of God chaplains to be authorized to supervise clinical pastoral education.
In 1994, Mr. Nation graduated from Lee with a bachelor’s degree in bible and theology. In 1997, he entered the then Church of God Theological Seminary where he earned his master of divinity degree and later a doctor of ministry degree. He is now vice president of Mission and Culture for TriHealth, a network of Roman Catholic hospitals in Cincinnati.
