Bike Chattanooga Announces 4 New Bike Share Stations

  • Tuesday, November 8, 2016
The City of Chattanooga’s Bike Chattanooga Bicycle Transit System invites the public to the ribbon cutting, activation of our four station expansion and doubling the size of the Walnut Street Bridge station. The 33 to 37 station growth will increase access to the system from neighborhoods and was made possible by grants from the Lyndhurst Foundation, Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga, and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Health Foundation. Join us at the TN Riverpark Curtain Pole trailhead station (2011 Curtain Pole Rd) on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 2:30 pm to hear about the new station and see the upgraded bikes that are part of the expansion.

These new station locations went live last month and have already served over 3,500 trips:

Blue Goose Hollow – A new station on the west side by recently built houses and apartments, with more under construction, links these new residents to the 37 station system and encourages riders to find your park.
The new station is sponsored by the NPS.

Curtain Pole – This TN Riverpark trailhead station off of Amnicola Highway provides a park-and-ride site where Chattanoogans can park for free and ride Bike Chattanooga into town for work, school, events, and enjoy exploring our city by bike. The station is sponsored by The Trust for Public Land

M.L. King at University – A neighborhood station that will ensure bike accessibility for residents to use the planned M.L. King Boulevard bike lanes and link UTC students with the business district’s retail and restaurants.

Wheland Foundry – Our southernmost station provides access from downtown to the businesses of South Broad and creates links to Bike Chattanooga for St Elmo residents.

Walnut Street upgrade – This popular station would run out of bikes, so 10 docks were added.
Chattanooga's bike share program is used by over 25,000 people each year.

Thanks to support from the Lyndhurst Foundation, Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga, and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Health Foundation, these new neighborhood stations will allow more residents to walk to check out a bike and use it for their transportation into town or another destination near one of 37 Bike Chattanooga stations.

The Chattanooga Department of Transportation provides the Bike Chattanooga system as part of its mission to make efficient transportation viable for everyone. CDOT has installed over 20 miles of bike facilities recently and bike share is a way to make sure citizens can take advantage of this transportation option. Bike share usage has gone up 28% since bike lanes were added to Broad Street, so officials know that these facilities have a positive effect on creating more options for how people get around.
