The Dalton State basketball team finished strong in both Thursday night halves against the College of Coastal Georgia to defeat the hosts, 67-60.
The Roadrunners (15-10 overall, 7-7 SSAC) found themselves down by 16 points early in the game against the Mariners, but the 23-7 score proved to not be too big of an obstacle.
Dalton State went on a 13-0 run to pull to within three points at 23-20. Coastal Georgia went up 26-20 before the Roadrunners scored 12 straight to go up 32-26 and hold on to a 32-29 half-time lead.
Dalton State went up 39-32 to open the second half, but CCGA answered with a 12-1 run to go ahead 44-40. The Roadrunners tied the game at 44, then went ahead for good.
Jalen Robinson led Dalton State in scoring with 15 points. Reed Dungan and Marcel Hawkins each scored 14. Rudy Winters added 10 points and Jamaine Burrey scored nine.
The Roadrunners were out rebounded 40-33. Coastal Georgia stayed in the game by hitting 8-12 from three point range (66.7%) to Dalton State’s 3-15 (20%). DS hit 70% from the foul line (14-20) to CCGA’s 66.7% (8-12).
Dominic Early and Jamaal Rhodes led the Mariners (8-18 overall, 4-10 SSAC) with a game-high 17 points each. Early also had a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Roadrunners travel to Mount Vernon to take on Brewton-Parker (7-16 overall, 3-10 SSAC) at around 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
