UTC's Henderson, Chance Take Second At MTSU Track Invitational

  • Saturday, February 6, 2016
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s track and field athletes Teghan Henderson (Pickering, Ontario) and Anna Kate Chance () each took second in their respective events Saturday at the Middle Tennessee Invitational at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Henderson took second in the Mile, running it for the second time this season and making an improvement in just two weeks.

“We expected Teghan to do well,” Chattanooga head coach Bill Gautier said.
“Sheran well and ran fast.”

Also taking second in her race was Anna Kate Chance who was second overall.

“Anna Kate’s time may not have been as good as we were hoping for, but she ran a good race,” Gautier said.

Madison Melchionna ran the 400 meter again, placing sixth overall and second in her heat.

“She’s making progress in a race that isn’t even her event,” Gautier said. “She did very well.”

Jessica York placed eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.60 with freshman Haley Morris placing 10th in a time of 2:25.66.

“We’re making progress,” Gautier said. “This meet is a good one to get us ready for next week.”

Three men from the Mocs cross country team made the trip to Murfreesboro. John Payne, running in his first meet, won the 3000 meter with a time of 8:56.36. Paul Stuart was ninth in the Mile Run with a time of 4:24.68 and Mark Britt, also competing in his first collegiate track race, ran the event in a time of 4:33.40.

“It was very exciting to see John out there running so well,” Gautier said. “Paul ran very well, it was strong for him, and Mark Britt did a good job for his first time out. I’m really happy with them.”

The Mocs will head to Birmingham, Ala., next week for the Samford Invitational to be run at the Birmingham Crossplex. That is the sight of the 2016 Southern Conference Indoor Championships.
