2 Patrol Cars Damaged In Vehicle Pursuit That Originated In Fort Oglethorpe

  • Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Two patrol cars were hit Tuesday night, during a vehicle pursuit that originated at Fort Oglethorpe.

Jeffery Dean Gilliam, 48, has been identified as the driver of the car.

At approximately 10:53 p.m., Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies were requested by the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department to assist in a pursuit of a vehicle headed into Hamilton County with two occupants. An adult female was in the vehicle and the driver would not allow her to get out.

At that point, HCSO deputies and East Ridge Police Department officers deployed spike strips and were successful in deflating three of Gilliam’s tires.

As the vehicle continued to lead law enforcement in a pursuit, despite having three flat tires, Gilliam then side-swapped a HCSO deputy’s car and eventually came to a stop after hitting a Chattanooga Police officer’s vehicle in a glancing head-on collision. Both officers were fine, despite having damage to their cars.

Gilliam was taken into custody by means of a Chattanooga K-9 officer and then transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

He has been transported to the Hamilton County Jail and is awaiting booking at this time. He will be charged with several offenses. He also has pending charges from Georgia from the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department.

More information will be released when it becomes available.
