Lee's Dagnan, Dean, Lynn Named To Conference Softball Teams

  • Tuesday, April 26, 2016
Lee University's Emily Dagnan claimed first-team honors and Lexie Dean and Amanda Lynn were named to the second team as the Gulf South Conference (GSC) announced its All-Conference Softball Teams for the 2016 season on Tuesday.

Dagnan caught all but four games over the last two seasons for the Lady Flames. The Jasper, Tenn. native finished the year hitting .411 with 19 doubles and eight home runs and a team-high 50 RBI. The senior finished second in the GSC in doubles and was sixth in RBI.

First Baseman Lexie Dean (Ooltewah, Tenn.) made her senior campaign a memorable one as she registered the second best batting average in the conference hitting at a .472 clip to go along with 14 doubles and 47 RBI.
Dean finished her stellar four-year career as the all-time leader in hits in school history.

Shortstop Amanda Lynn (Susanville, Calif.) joined Dean on the All-GSC second team. Lynn broke several school records in her senior season and will go down as the all-time career leader in runs, walks and stolen bases in program history. From the leadoff spot, Lynn hit .414 with 24 steals and was fifth in the conference with 53 runs scored in 2016. The sure-handed shortstop led the team with 108 assists.

North Alabama sophomore Brooklynn Clark (Seadrift, Texas) is the first UNA player to be named GSC Player of the Year since the award began in 1997. She closed the regular season hitting .476 (81-for-170) with 14 home runs, 15 doubles, 51 runs and a UNA single-season record 67 RBIs.

Valdosta State junior Caitlyn Calhoun (Hamilton, Ohio.) repeated as GSC Pitcher of the Year honor, becoming only the third individual to earn the award in back-to-back seasons. Calhoun leads the GSC with a 26-4 record and 1.46 ERA. During the year, Calhoun tied a GSC career record with her sixth career no-hitter and became the second player in VSU history to eclipse the 500 career strikeout mark.

Delta State first baseman Morgan Kazerooni (Kennesaw, Ga.), a three-time GSC Freshman of the Week selection, hit .373 (50-for-158) with 15 doubles, seven home runs and 49 RBIs was tabbed Freshman of the Year.

North Alabama head coach Ashley Cozart (Trevecca Nazarene, 2007), in her third season as head coach at UNA, was named the GSC Coach of the Year after leading the Lions to their first GSC regular season title since 1989 with a league-leading and program-best 46-5 record.
