ND Send Two Doubles Team To State

Notre Dame qualified a pair of doubles teams (D-I A-AA) to next week’s Spring Fling XXIII in Murfreesboro, while Soddy Daisy and East Hamilton in D-I AAA have singles and doubles champions, respectively, headed to next week.

 

In A-AA at Champions Club ….

Finals are Tuesday

 

Hixson and Collegedale have two in the finals which are set for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Champions, while Boyd Buchanan, Brainerd, Red Bank and Silverdale have one finalist each.

 

L-o-n-g Match: In A-AA boys singles, Daniel Cox (Red Bank) needed three sets and two hours and 30 minutes to defeat District 5 champion Jake Harden (Boyd Buc), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a well-played match. Cox will face long-time friend and District 6 champion Carl Phillips (Hixson) in the finals. Phillips beat Cox in the district finals, 6-0, 6-4.

 

Hopeful of Spring Fling Return Trip: Hixson’s Phillips played in the state doubles a year ago and hopes for a return trip in singles …. Teammate Alex Condra was a state singles runner-up a year ago and is in the region finals in doubles with Richard Vuong this year … Collegedale senior Matti Sue Nafie has made four region finals and won the region doubles title to earn a trip to Spring Fling XXI in 2014 … Nafie and Britton McElroy take on District 6 champs, Brianna and Brittany Canty of Brainerd in the finals.

Both students have been No.1 in their class throughout high school and have never made a letter grade below an A since elementary school.
