Baylor School softball star, Kayla Hughes, was named the Greater Chattanooga FCA’s Christian Athlete of the Year at the ministry’s annual Day of Champions Sunday afternoon at Ridgedale Baptist Church.  Hughes, who will continue her softball career at Tennessee Tech, was chosen from among twelve high school FCA senior leaders nominated by area schools.  This is the 53rd consecutive year that FCA has given this award which includes a partial scholarship provided by the Maclellan Foundation.

Ooltewah High School’s Lorenzo Pickett and Silverdale Baptist Academy’s Josh Brady shared the runner up award.  Both Pickett and Brady were outstanding leaders on their respective school’s football teams.  Pickett plans to attend East Tennessee State University, while Brady has signed to play football at Jacksonville State University.

Also announced at the banquet were several other awards that the FCA presents annually including the Gerry Stephens Influence Award which was presented to FCA Volunteer, Terry Davis, who assists the ministry with huddle meetings and team character clinics at Soddy Daisy Middle and High Schools.  The Legacy Builder Coaches Award went to FCA huddle coach Heath Thacker from Whitwell High School.  The Jim Sattler Leadership Award was presented to Tyner Academy Cheer Coach, Deborah Campbell.  Silverdale Baptist Church received the FCA Church Partner of the Year Award.

For only the second year the Chattanooga FCA also recognized a FCA Middle School Christian Athlete of the Year.  A total of eleven eighth grade athletes were nominated and Hunter Middle School’s Chloe Johnson was chosen as the winner as she has provided outstanding leadership and influence in her school through FCA.
