A father and son are dead in a shooting in East Brainerd on Sunday afternoon.

They were identified as longtime Chattanooga attorney Glenn Ray Copeland and his son, Steven Dale Copeland.

Glenn Copeland, a 1952 graduate of Central High School, was a brother of former Rep. David Copeland.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Allen Branum said, "The investigation is ongoing; however, as of now, the facts indicate that the shooting is domestic related.  The facts also lead detectives to believe that no suspect remains at large.

"No further information is available at this time pending a determination by the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office."

Authorities said attorney Copeland was shot at his home at 9012 Jennifer Lane, and his son (who was termed the suspect) left the scene and went to 9015 Jennifer Lane.

Attorney Copeland was transported to Erlanger Hospital via Hamilton County EMS.

Steven Dale Copeland had left the scene upon arrival of sheriff deputies, but was soon located at 9015 Jennifer Lane, deceased from what appears to be a gunshot wound.

During the follow-up investigation, authorities were notified that attorney Copeland had died at Erlanger Hospital.

Steven Dale Copeland, 59, was arrested in early February for DUI and three driving charges. He was due in General Sessions Court on those cases on Wednesday.
