The Signal Mountain 10-year-old All-Stars were 1-1 over the weekend and play Springfield tonight at 7 in the consolation finals of the Dixie Youth Baseball AAA (9-10s) state tournament in Rockwood.
Playoff Scenario: Two Games Tonight: SM (3-1) vs.Springfield (4-1) and Dyersburg (4-1) vs. Fairview (4-0).
If Dyersburg (4-1) beats Fairview (4-0) there will be three teams with one loss. If Springfield (4-1) beats SM (3-1), Dyersburg and Springfield would have played the most games (6) and would flip a coin to see which team advances to the finals.
If Signal Mountain beats Springfield, and Dyersburg beats Fairview, Dyersburg would advance to the finals due to having played more games.
If Fairview beats Dyersburg, the winner of the SM-Springfield game will have to win twice on Tuesday to win the state and advance to the AAA (9-10s) World Series in Laurel, Miss. beginning Aug. 6.
Signal Mountain 14, Kingston 4: Ty Harper at first and Barrett Anderson at third led the SM defense.
Offensively, Harper had a double triple and scored twice, Anderson and two doubles and a single, score twice and had an RBI, Edwin Pratt contributed with a single and a double and two RBIs.
David Baker struck out two and allowed three earned runs in 2.2 innings, while Anderson struck out two in 2.1 innings of work.
Fairview 11, Signal Mountain 1: In the championship semis, SM’s David Baker drove in Blake Wolfard with a single in the fourth. Luke Bell struck out five in 2.2 innings of work and made a diving catch in centerfield. SM is 3-1.
