Jackson, Tenn. - For the first time in nearly two weeks, the Jackson Generals scored more than four runs in a 6-0 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of 2,504 on Thursday night at The Ballpark at Jackson. Tyler Herb cruised on the hill to pick up his first Double-A win in his first Double-A quality start. The hurler threw six scoreless frames and gave up just two hits, both of which were singles.

Chattanooga's David Hurlbut allowed six runs on nine hits and three walks in six innings.

He struck out one. Hurlbut was relieved by Brandon Peterson, who struck out two in a perfect frame. Ryan Eades finished the game with a strikeout in a perfect inning of his own.

First baseman D.J. Hicks singled twice, accounting for all of the Lookouts' hits.

Jackson's (13-13, 59-37) offense returned to form, scoring more than four runs for the fifth time in 19 July games. The Generals clubbed three extra-base hits as well in the form of two doubles and a triple. The three extra-base knocks marked the first time Jackson had more than two extra-base hits in a game since July 12th, a stretch that lasted seven games and saw the Generals record nine extra-base hits total.

This was the Generals' Southern League best 11th shutout, two more than Mobile's nine in second.

For the fourth time in their last five games, Jackson scored in the first. Benji Gonzalez drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a balk by Chattanooga starter David Hurlbut (7-5, 3.56). Brock Hebert pushed Gonzalez to third on a groundout before Tyler O'Neill knocked him in with a sacrifice fly to make a 1-0.

With the sacrifice fly and RBI, Tyler O'Neill became the first play in the Southern League this season to record 70 RBI in 2016. O'Neill also leads all active Southern League hitters with 17 homers and he only turned 21-years-old a month ago on June 22nd. In fact, O'Neill hasn't faced a pitcher younger than him this entire season.

The Generals broke it open in the fourth after Ryan Casteel and Tim Lopes led off with back-to-back singles. Steve Baron walked to load the bases with nobody out before Kyle Petty clubbed his first Double-A triple to clear the bases and give the Generals a 4-0 lead.

Casteel's single in the fourth was his second of the night. The Chattanooga native has reached base in all 14 games he's played in, has a hit in 13 of 14, and an RBI in 8 of 14. Overall, Casteel is hitting .375 (18-for-48) with a homer and eight RBI since he was signed by the Mariners on July 7th and assigned to Double-A Jackson.

The final offensive outburst came in the sixth. Lopes led off with a single to right and advanced to third on Baron's double to right. Two batters later, Pat Brady knocked in both men to give the Generals a 6-0 lead they'd go on to win by.

Tyler Herb (1-2, 3.86) picked up his first Double-A win in his first Double-A quality start. The 24-year-old threw six scoreless frames and gave up just two hits. Of the 18 outs he recorded, 11 were by groundout, three by fly out, and four by strikeout. Herb did walk five, but struck out the last two hitters he faced looking.

The Lookouts defense finished another game without an error Thursday, and lead the league with a .984 team fielding percentage and lowest error total with 60 in 97

games.

Box

Jackson looks to make it two in a row on Friday! Andrew Moore (4-1, 3.23) is slated to start for the Generals against Omar Bencomo (2-5, 4.50) for the Lookouts.
