State Representative Ron Travis announced Tuesday that the city of Dunlap in Sequatchie County will receive two grants totaling nearly $1 million from Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The first grant, $404,165, will fund Phase 2 of construction of streetscape improvements from the Rankin Avenue/Church Street intersection to the Spring Street/Cherry Street intersection. The second grant, $496,160, will be used for the construction of 1,400 feet of sidewalk, pedestrian lighting, and to install a mid-way crossing with a flashing beacon for the same area.
The Transportation Alternatives Program began providing funds to local governments in 1991.
More than $317 million in grants has been distributed by the department since. The money has gone to 267 communities across the Volunteer State to build sidewalks, bike and pedestrian trails and to renovate historic train depots and other transportation related structures.
“This is great news for Sequatchie County,” said Rep. Travis. “I am very pleased these funds will be available to help make Dayton an even more accessible and beautiful area.”
