Karlos Butler
A Bennett Avenue man said when his stolen laptop computer was returned it had numerous photos on it of the man now charged with stealing it.
Karlos Butler, 23, of Chamberlain Avenue, is set for trial in the courtroom of Judge Don Poole on Sept. 1 on two counts of theft.
Andrew Welch said the computer was taken on Jan. 22, 2015 on a night he usually would have been home, but was absent. The UTC student said he had had the Apple MacBook since he was a junior in high school and had "a lot of personal stuff on it."
He said when he got it back some of his items had been removed and the photos were there. He said most of the pictures were in the computer's trash, but he and his roommates were able to retrieve them.
David Holcomb said he bought the computer through Craig's List from a man who gave the name of Andy. He said he met him twice - at a Burger King across from the police station on Amnicola Highway and at Starbucks at Erlanger Hospital.
He said he was not able to open the computer and he called "Andy" numerous times to try to get the password.
Some of the photos showed Butler with guns, others with him giving the finger, and others appearing to be smoking marijuana. A child could be seen in the background.
His attorney, Erinn O'Leary, said some of the photos could be prejudicial and should be excluded. Judge Poole said he will examine the pictures at the time of trial.
Attorney O'Leary said Butler has no prior criminal record.
