The nationally ranked Baylor volleyball team remained undefeated this weekend as they beat nine teams to win the first-ever River City Rumble.
Baylor's closest match came in the finals when they beat Signal Mountain in a real battle, the Lady Red Raiders winning by scores of 30-28 and 25-19.
Gabby Gray had 83 kills, 41 digs, seven blocks and four aces in the two-day tournament while Sarah Sumida had 225 assists in addition to 28 digs, 14 kills, 13 aces and five blocks. Ally Craig also chipped in with 48 kills, 48 digs, six blocks and 10 aces.
The Chattanooga Christian Lady Chargers bounced back from a tough first day in the River City Rumble volleyball tournament to win three of four matches on Saturday to finish fifth as their overall record improved to 9-13.
The Lady Chargers defeated Covenant Christian by scores of 18-25, 25-14 and 15-13 in the first match before sweeping Soddy Daisy by scores of 25-19 and 26-24. Then came a 2-1 win over Red Bank by scores of 21-25, 25-19 and 15-12 before losing to Baylor, 25-8 and 25-10.
The tournament was played at Baylor and Soddy Daisy.
The Sale Creek Lady Panthers finished tied for fifth in the Gold Bracket among 40 teams competing at the Rocky Top Classic in Gatlinburg.
Sale Creek improved to 25-4 with wins over Oakland, Knox Central and Hixson before losing to Maryville.
The Grace Academy Lady Golden Eagles were also at the Rocky Top Classic where they defeated Sullivan South in three sets to win the championship match in the Silver division.
Alexandra Smith had 21 kills and a dozen digs to go along with three blocks in that final match where Grace prevailed by scores of 18-25, 25-20 and 15-9.
Summer Dean had 28 assists while Maggie Long was credited with 16 digs.
Grace is now 18-7 on the season.
