Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger and the Hamilton County Commission invite the public to join them at noon on Friday at the Courthouse for a brief Constitution Day celebration.
Constitution Day in a recognized national holiday commemorating the signing of the United States Constitution in September, 1787. Friday’s celebration will highlight the significance of the world’s oldest constitution and the establishment of a system based on the rule of law.
While the Preamble identifies the purposes of our republican form of government, most citizens are most familiar with the phrase, WE THE PEOPLE, the first three words of the document.
The public is invited to join the county mayor and Commission, along with the co-sponsoring Chief John Ross Chapter, DAR members, on the south steps of the Courthouse. The celebration will include an opening statement from County Mayor Coppinger, citizen participation in the Pledge of Allegiance and the American’s Creed, a recognition of all veterans in attendance and a reaffirmation to foster civic virtue and an informed electorate.
