Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will perform concrete repair work on a section of SR-153 South at the Hamilton Place Mall exit in Chattanooga this week.  This work will require the temporary closure of the area where the work will be done.  Additionally, the exit ramp to Hamilton Place Mall from SR-153 South will be temporarily closed at times.

On the evenings of Wednesday and Thursday, between the hours of 10 p.m.-6 a.m., the contractor will be saw-cutting the concrete in both lanes on SR-153 South at the Hamilton Place exit.  During this nighttime work, the exit ramp to Hamilton Place from SR-153 South will be closed to traffic.  Traffic needing to access I-75 North will be routed around the work zone and then back onto the roadway.  Traffic needing to access Hamilton Place Mall during this time period will be detoured to the Shallowford Road exit from I-75 North.  All lanes will be reopened at 6 a.m. each morning.

Beginning on Friday at 10 p.m. and lasting until Monday at 6 a.m. at the latest, the contractor will complete the concrete repair work.  He will remove the saw-cut concrete and pour new concrete in both lanes on SR-153 South at the Hamilton Place exit.  When the contractor works on Friday night, the exit ramp to Hamilton Place from SR-153 South will be closed to traffic.  Traffic needing to access I-75 North will be routed around the work zone and then back onto the roadway.  Traffic needing to access Hamilton Place Mall during this time period will be detoured to the Shallowford Road exit from I-75 North.

On Saturday morning after the new concrete is poured, the Hamilton Place exit from SR-153 South will be reopened to traffic.  During the time it takes for the concrete to set, traffic needing to access I-75 North from SR-153 South will continue to be routed around the work zone and back onto the roadway.  The contractor will reopen all lanes on SR-153 South as soon as possible once the concrete has successfully set and traffic can safely be allowed back on the surface.

During this work, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and TDOT queue trucks will assist with traffic control, and traffic will be advised to use the Shallowford Road exit from I-75 to access Hamilton Place Mall during the times that the ramp is closed.  Also, traffic information will be displayed on TDOT’s SmartWay Dynamic Message Signs, and a message board will be used to provide traffic information to the public.

This concrete repair work is being done as part of a statewide on-call concrete repair contract.  This work is weather dependent.  Should weather or unforeseen circumstances postpone this work, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible.
