The weekend of Friday the 13th turned out be anything but less than unlucky for the Georgia Northwestern Bobcats, who won both of their games at the Oxford Classic, played in classic Williams Gymnasium on the campus of Oxford-Emory College in Covington, Ga.

On Friday night, facing their former region rivals, the Bobcats jumped out to a seven-point lead at the 11:30 mark, only to see the host Eagles rally and trim the gap down to two, 22-20, by the 8:30 mark.

However, the Bobcats switched to a press and converted some steals into points at the other end, allowing them to carry a 37-31 cushion into the locker room.

Georgia Northwestern was able to build on their advantage in the opening eight minutes of the second half, pushing the margin to 55-45 with just under 12 minutes remaining.

Oxford would answer with a 14-3 run over the next four minutes, giving them a narrow 59-58 lead, but once again, the Bobcats jumped into a press and were able to wrestle the lead away, this time for good.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Darrius Fugh and Patrick Simmons capped a 16-4 run that gave the Bobcats a 74-63 lead with
3:25 to go. Oxford would whittle the gap down to 74-71 with just over 90 seconds left, but Demonte Parker would connect on a crucial pair of free throws down the stretch as the Bobcats held on for the victory.

Fugh led all scorers with 32 points, while rounding out the double-double with 10 rebounds. Parker went for 17 points and six boards, while Simmons finished with 13 points and connected on four 3-pointers.

Other contributors included Alec Rattanaxay with eight points and six steals and Daniel Parrish, who scored just two points, but dished out 11 assists to help the Bobcats snap a three-game losing streak.

Zach Breathwaite had 21 points for the Eagles.

One night later, the Bobcats saw the Lions trim what had been a 17-8 deficit down to 37-30 by halftime and the Lions would open the second half on a 14-8 spurt to knot the game at 45 with
13:30 to play.

Emmanuel would eventually take their first lead of the game, 51-48, at the
11:20 mark, but five quick points by Parker got the lead back for the Bobcats, who would never trail again.

Georgia Northwestern would push the lead out to 10 with just over five minutes to play, and although the Lions would chop it back down to four less than 90 seconds later, a bucket by Fugh and four free throws by Parrish in the final minute would ice the win.

For the second straight game, the Bobcats shot over 50 percent from the floor (51.7 percent). Fugh again led the way with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Parrish went for 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while Parker had another solid game with 12 points, six boards and three steals.

Rattanaxay recorded eight points, four rebounds and three steals, while Darius Floyd continue his solid recent play with seven points and eight boards.

Johnathan Turner had 21 points and 15 rebounds, while former Georgia Northwestern Bobcat Tavish Reynolds had eight points and pulled down nine rebounds against his old team.

Georgia Northwestern (6-6) will welcome The Crown College from Powell, Tenn. to the Rossville Athletic Center
on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Both the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats will travel to face the Covenant College JV Scots and Lady Scots on Thursday, starting at 5:30 p.m.
