Senators And Representatives Respond To The Presidential Inauguration

  • Friday, January 20, 2017

Area senators and representatives respond to Friday's inauguration of President Donald J. Trump.

U.S. Senator Bob Corker said, "It was an honor to attend the inauguration today and witness President Trump take the oath of office.  I look forward to the opportunity before us and am committed to working with the Trump administration and my colleagues in Congress to address our nation’s challenges.

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander said, “Today, we celebrate the American tradition of the peaceful transition of power, as we inaugurate the 45th President of the United States. This is what is remarkable about our country: Since our founding nearly two and a half centuries ago, we have held elections that demonstrated huge differences of opinion – and despite that, we hand over power peacefully and in an orderly way.

“I’m ready to work with the Trump administration and Congress to reduce Washington’s involvement in our everyday lives. That means trying to make it easier for people to be able to find a health care plan that they can actually afford and helping Tennesseans find good jobs to support their families.”

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann said, “I want to congratulate Donald Trump on becoming the 45th President of the United States.  His Inauguration is the beginning of an opportunity for cooperative, conservative governing and I’m excited to be a part of it.  Today is a new day for our nation and I am extremely optimistic about America moving in such a positive direction.”

Congressman Scott DesJarlais, M.D., said, “The energy and enthusiasm in the air in Washington and around the country is palpable. Especially in Tennessee, we’re excited for the next four years, even the next few weeks, as Donald Trump has proven himself a tireless advocate for the principles and policies that will Make America Great Again. He’s a hardworking pragmatist, who will do his best to represent every one of us. In Congress, I’m looking forward to helping President Trump achieve goals we all share: a thriving economy and safe, secure nation.”
