Review for Crimes of the Heart:
The scene is Hazelhurst, Ms. where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await the news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last days in the local hospital. Lenny, the eldest, is unmarried and facing diminishing marital prospects. Meg, the middle sister, outgrew Hazelhurst and moved to Hollywood for a singing career that failed. Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after shooting her husband in the stomach. Can they all escape the past to seize the future?
Director Ronald King invites everyone into the Magrath kitchen to experience a show that is "all at once funny, poignant, tragic and relatable" starring Anita Ba-Radwan, Courtenay Cholovich, Nikki Sloan, Aleatha Plott, Jeff Adair and Kirt Johnson. Mr. King is assisted by Caleb Busie and Joel Sanchez-Avantes.
Crimes of the Heart was written by Beth Henley in 1978. The play won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play. It was adapted for the big screen as a feature film in 1986 starring Sissy Spacek, Jessica Lange and Diane Keaton.
