Mocs Runners Earn Personal Best Performances At Crimson Tide Invite

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s outdoor track team had several runners with season or personal best performances and many other competed in races for the first time this season.

 

“Overall we had great improvements out of everyone,” Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said.

“This was a huge boost for all our young kids. Our best effort so far this season.”

 

Freshman Abby Bateman (Jefferson City, Tenn.) led the Mocs in the 800 meter with a PR time of 2:18.29. Junior Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, Tenn.) was next across the line followed by sophomore Haley Morris (Lenoir City, Tenn.) who ran the 800 meter for the first time finished in a time of 2:27.28. Freshman Maddie Christian (Lenoir City, Tenn.) was just shy of her previous best time this season.

 

Freshman Rebekah Wich (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) finished the 5000 meter with a PR time of 18:31.57 and freshman Sydney Gilliam (Brentwood, Tenn.) posted a time of 20:20.90 in her first collegiate outdoor 5000-meter run.

 

Sophomore cross country runner John Payne (Portland, Tenn.) finished eighth in the men’s 500-meter run Friday night with a time of 14:52.68. Sophomore Mark Britt (Lebanon, Tenn.) posted a PR in the 1500 meter and sophomore Gavin Hasty (Brentwood, Tenn.) had a time of 1:57.60 in the 800m.

 

Freshman Kelsey Henry (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) just missed her PR in the 200 meter covering the sprint in a time of 29.45. Sophomore Madison Watson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) ran the 400 meter in a time of 1:09.04. Freshman Taylor Sawyer (Chattanooga, Tenn.) ran the 200 meter and raced in her first400-meterr dash with a time of 1:09.05.

 

“These kids have been working very hard and its beginning to show,” Meyer said. “Highly competitive meets draw inspired performances and these kids ran inspired.

 

“We are excited to head to Auburn next and continue our improvement.”

 

The Mocs will close out the regular season in two weeks at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational. Following that will be the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
