Morgan Turpen
The “Queen of the 360’s” Morgan Turpen of Memphis, a mild-mannered school teacher by day, turns outlaw sprint car racer, captured her seventh victory of the USCS – United Sprint Car Series Friday night in front of a packed house at Fort Payne Motor Speedway.
The special event drew some of the best open wheel racers from around the South, including Turpen’s teammate 11-time National Champion, “The Original Outlaw” Terry Gray.
Turpen who won the Engler Machine and Tool first heat nearly lost the race just past the halfway point in the 30 lap feature when current USCS points leader Jordan Mallett of Greenbrier, Ark. dashed past her on the back straight-away when she checked-up behind the slower Jake McLain.
Turpen spun McLain in turn three, rearing a caution, allowing her to be still scored the official leader by USCS officials. Only one serious incident occurred when Don Warren got on his side early in the race.
Points leader Mallett finished second with Gray third Dale Howard and Brown and Miller Racing Solutions Second Heat #2 winner Lee Moore rounded out the Top 5.
Racing resumes a week from Saturday (June 17th) at Fort Payne Motor Speedway with a full racing program.
