"Millennials Planning for Success by Confidently Conquering Challenges" was the theme for the High School Senior Recognition Program sponsored by the Chattanooga Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on May 7.

Approximately 90 graduating seniors from schools in the Chattanooga and Hamilton County area received achievement certificates for their accomplishments in academics, athletics, leadership, public service, fine arts, technology, and vocational education.

Edna Varner, a member of the Chattanooga Alumnae Chapter, charged the students to focus on their future pursuits. She also presented the Mamie Bullard Award to Brainerd High School student Elijah Locklin.  Simone Edwards and Chandler Custer, previous participants and current college students, gave musical presentations.

The Chattanooga Alumnae Chapter awarded $9,000 and the foundation, Deltas Serving Together, Inc. awarded $2,000. "These young scholars are high achievers, academically advanced, and actively involved in their school and/or community," officials said.

The 2017 recipients are: Markia Ash, Alise Bedford, Breanna Berry, Lauren Blalock, Meghann Common, Trevor Holsey, Carlisha McKenzie, Autumn Richardson, Sydnee Scott, Darika Scott, and Pamela Slack.
