Carmen Hutson-Quezada, recipient of the 2016 Latino of the Year Award
The Latino Leadership Awards is an annual La Paz Chattanooga initiative that brings together members of the community in order to recognize and honor Latinos who have made a significant impact in Chattanooga. In addition to the Latino Leader recognition, La Paz also honors five individuals for the following special awards:
- Latino Leader of the Year & Chattanooga’s Choice:
Of those selected as 2017 Latino Leaders, two will be given an additional recognition. The most prestigious honors at the ceremony recognize two local Latino's individual career achievement and community impact. A selection committee will determine who will receive the Latino Leader of the Year Award, and the general public will vote for the person to be honored as Chattanooga's Choice.
- Community Champion:
Recognizing those who have championed services for and/or made a significant impact on Chattanooga’s Latino population over a series of years. This recipient does not have to be Latino in heritage.
- Emerging Latino Leader:
Recognizing the emerging influence and accomplishments of a Latino young adult who is under the age of 25 years.
- La Paz Volunteer of the Year:
Recognizing the outstanding dedication and volunteer service of one individual's commitment to the work of La Paz Chattanooga.
Nominations for the 2017 Latino Leadership Awards, scheduled for Sept. 18 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Chattanooga Convention and Trade Center, are open and will close by end of business on July, 10. All nominees must be over the age of 18 and live within a 25 mile radius of the greater Chattanooga area. Nominations can be submitted online at www.lapazchattanooga.org/awards.
