Lookouts Reduce Magic Number To Six To Clinch Second-Half Crown

After falling to the M-Braves Tuesday, the Chattanooga Lookouts put together good pitching with good hitting to sink Mississippi Wednesday night, 7-2.

The Lookouts magic number to clinch the second-half North Division crown is now at six against the Montgomery Biscuits.. Tennessee, Jackson, and Birmingham have been eliminated from the race. 

After a 6-5 loss to the M-Braves on Tuesday night, the Lookouts got off to a fast start on Wednesday night, as they took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Lookouts scored their first two runs of the game when Max Murphy roped a line drive to center, allowing LaMonte Wade and Jonathan Rodriguez to score.T.J. White followed Murphy with a line drive double of his own, plating Murphy from second base.

Mississippi scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning via a double by Joey Meneses, which allowed Alex Jackson to cross the plate, making the score 3-1. 

 

Chattanooga extended their lead 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Edgar Corcino drove in the first two runs of the inning after he laced a sharp single into right field, scoring both Ryan Walker and Levi Michael. Wade followed with a two-run single of his own as he sent a scorching single into centerfield. Nick Gordon and Corcino both scored on the single from Wade.

 

Mississippi would add another run in the top of the eighth inning when Meneses singled on a line drive to right field to score Austin Riley from second but their rally would end there, as Chattanooga's offense proved to be too much to handle.

 

Chattanooga relief pitcher, Anthony McIver (1-0, 0.00) earned his first win in his first appearance as a Lookout on Wednesday after being called up fromFort Myers earlier in the day. 

 

Mississippi starter, Tyler Pike (0-8, 4.87) suffered his eighth loss with the M-Braves.

Minnesota Twins #4 overall prospect Fernando Romero (11-8, 3.30) is set to start game four of the series for the Lookouts on Thursday night.Mississippi will also send a highly rated prospect to the mound in the form of Touki Toussaint (1-3, 2.05). Toussaint is currently rated as the #15 overall prospect in the Atlanta Braves organization.
