Michael Anthony Barr
Approximately one month ago, the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office received information of a suspicious individual living in the Dawnville community. Officers were informed that the subject was heavily armed and going by the name of Carlos Fonseca, which was a fictitious name.
An investigation was initiated and surveillance was conducted on the residence at 4979 Mitchell Bridge Road. During the investigation, officers were able to determine the subject’s real name was Michael Anthony Barr, 37,and that he was a fugitive from the Atlanta area, where he is wanted on felony drug and weapon charges, and probation violation charges.
On Aug. 31, while officers were in the area conducting surveillance the suspect was observed coming out of his residence and walking across the yard, at which time several officers went onto the property and took Barr into custody without incident.
A search warrant was then executed on the residence and property for weapons. Discovered during the search were numerous handguns, and long guns, including assault rifles and an illegal sawed off shotgun. Additional items seized include bullet proof vests, an illegal firearm silencer, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. A felony amount of marijuana, suspected cocaine, drug related items, and other items were also seized.
Barr is being held in the Whitfield County Jail without bond. He is being charged in Whitfield County with possession of firearms by a convicted felon, unlawful possession of a sawed off shotgun, unlawful possession of a silencer, and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act. Additional charges are pending.
All evidence on the tables came from the suspect’s residence and property
