Lee keeper Haley Gribler had three saves in Sunday's overtime battle with Eagles
FOLEY, Ala. – It took 103 minutes before either side scored but in the end it was Embry-Riddle's Maria Schmeidhofer firing a shot off a Lee defender and into the back of the net to send the Eagles past the Lee women's soccer team on a windy Sundayafternoon.
"I'm incredibly proud of the performance.
I felt like anyone who saw the match could see we dominated the game for long periods of time," admitted Hennessey. "Unfortunately right now we're not scoring on our chances and our opponents are making the most of their limited opportunities. Embry Riddle had two good looks today one went just over the bar in regulation and then the overtime goal."
Summer Lanter led the Lady Flames with four shots, three of which were on goal. Devin Healy added two shots but Lee was held scoreless for the second time this season.
"It's a tough one and I feel bad for our players because we played so well overall. Our forwards worked hard and our defenders and midfielders were very solid but the truth is you have to score goals to win games," concluded Hennessey.
The Lady Flames (2-2) outshot the Eagles (2-1) 10-8 and put six shots on frame compared to four for the Florida club. Lee earned six corner kicks while Embry-Riddle settled for three.
Lee's Haley Gribler was credited with three saves in the contest while the Eagles used a combination of Fanny Kristiansson (47 minutes) and Dana Ruchti (56 minutes). Embry-Riddle combined for six saves in the contest.
After a rugged non-conference schedule the Lady Flames will open up Gulf South Conference play on Friday from the Lee Soccer Field as they host Delta State at 5 p.m. On Sunday the Lady Flames will welcome the early-season GSC leaders, Mississippi College for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
