Korean War Veteran Retired From Seaboard Farms

Jack Earl Neighbors, 87, of Ringgold, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017.

Jack was an active member of Peavine Baptist Church in Rock Spring, Ga., Jack was originally from Sylacauga, AL., and was a graduate of Rockford High School Class of 1948 where he was an outstanding basketball player. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He retired from Seaboard Farms after 35 years of service in the poultry Industry. He served as president of the Tennessee and Alabama Poultry Conventions, and he served on the board of directors for the US Poultry and Egg Association, where he also served one term as the vice-president. He was known for his love of people, his quick wit, and his gift of storytelling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Baxie Ward Neighbors and seven brothers. 

Left behind to cherish Jack’s memory are his devoted wife of 63 years, Hilda Hardy Neighbors; son, Bob (Pam) Neighbors; daughter, Jackie (Gary) Gross; son, Chris (Kelly) Neighbors, nine grandchildren, Brandon (Jenni) Neighbors, Staci (Josh) Rochester, Stephanie (Matt) Cooper, Kimberly (Eric) Holland, Daniel (Jennifer) Gross, Ashley Gross, Kelsey Jo Neighbors, Kayla Rose Neighbors, Kora May Neighbors, and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 4-7 p.m. at the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel on South Moore Road. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Peavine Baptist Church in Rock Spring, Ga., with Rev. Denny Patrick officiating. Family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. until service time. He will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
