City Council To Vote Next Tuesday On Making Former Judge Williams An Administrative Hearing Officer

  • Tuesday, September 19, 2017

The City Council next Tuesday will vote on making former City Judge Walter Williams an administrative hearing officer (AHO).

The council earlier named attorney Kyle Hedrick as an AHO.

However, officials at the time said a second spot would be made available for Judge Williams.

The former city judge earlier went on disability status after suffering a stroke. However, he recently went back on active status.

He said he can fully handle the duties. The stroke affected his speech and use of one hand.

The AHO will hear a number of city enforcement cases now handled by City Court. It will be able to issue fines of $500 per day as opposed to $50 by City Court.

City Attorney Wade Hinton said the council may be asked to act the following Tuesday on additional powers for the AHO.
