The city of Chattanooga is making plans to extend Passenger Street at the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

The extension will go between Johnson Street and the northern terminus of the Choo Choo property. The Flying Squirrel Bar is on Johnson Street.

The length of the extension is 225 feet.

The design will be paid by the developer, and the city is to pay for the road work.

The completed Passenger Street, which goes near the Passenger Flats Apartments, will be dedicated to the city. The Passenger Flats Apartments are converted motel rooms at the rear of the Choo Choo.

LIV Development of Birmingham is the developer on the project.

The city is to advertise for competitive bids for the road work.

Meanwhile, the Choo Choo is seeking permission to operate a distillery at its property in Suite 108 at 1400 Market St.

William A. Lee of Ridgecroft Distillery will be involved in its operation. It will occupy 1,800 square feet of space.

The distillery will be to the rear of the Dome lobby, where a dining area has long been located.

It plans to sell alcohol for on-premise and off-premise consumption.

The distillery plans to produce some 5,000 gallons per month with tastings and special events planned.

The Regional Planning Agency staff noted that Battle Academy is less than 500 feet away. However, it says the distance requirement does not apply since the location is part of the Form-Based Code.

Work was recently completed on Station Street, which goes off South Market Street by the Choo Choo and the Terminal Brewhouse.

A number of bars and entertainment venues have gone up along the street, and it is closed to vehicular traffic periodically for special events.

Legislation was passed to allow open drinking on Station Street.

Station Street was formerly E. 14th Street.
