MOMentum Network Creates Space For Single Moms On Campus; Open House Friday Evening

  • Friday, January 26, 2018
The MOMentum Network is unveiling their new “home” room that provides single mothers in college and their children a safe place to gather and grow. An open house will be held today from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at their space inside First Christian Church on McCallie Ave., across from the UTC campus.

“We have teamed up with Homes & Havens to provide a place of belonging for single moms who are working to build a better future for themselves, their families and the community,” said CEO and founder Cara Hicks.
“We want them to know that we are here to help them succeed as moms and emerging leaders.”

The space is being transformed from an office space to feel more like a living room where “Momenterns” (single mom interns) are available during the week to meet with moms to connect them to resources or to provide a listening ear.

Marketing Intern Nicole Smith shares, “Before I found MOMentum, I drove an hour to campus, came to class and then an hour back home. Now I can come in to work, but I also can rest and study in between classes and meet with other moms who know what I’m going through.”

Friday’s open house will kick off the spring semester of programming for The MOMentum Network. The gathering is open to all single moms enrolled in college and their children as well as those interested in being a part of the “village” of supporters. Dinner is provided.
