Mitchell Taylor Horton, 27, Arrested For Deadly Hit And Run Accident In Walker County; Vehicle Is Located

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson announced that the suspect in a fatal hit and run on Tuesday has been arrested.

A felony warrant was issued for Mitchell Taylor Horton, 27, on Wednesday, for homicide by vehicle.

The Chattanooga Police Department received a tip advising of Horton's location.  Horton was arrested at 7 p.m. by the Chattanooga Police Department and transported to Hamilton County Jail.

Horton is awaiting an extradition trial in Chattanooga, after which he will be transported to to the Walker County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility.

Sheriff Wilson said Horton drove through a fence and two driveways before striking 58-year-old Horace Cribbs.

Police say the Hyundai Sonata used in the incident was found Wednesday morning, hidden behind a home on Kristen Drive. It was wrapped in a tarp. 

Horton has past drug charges in Walker and Hamilton County.

The vehicle was located after a tip was reported to Walker 911. The home owner reported finding the vehicle and is cooperating with law enforcement.

A search warrant has been obtained for the vehicle.  The vehicle will be transported to the Walker County Sheriff's Office for processing, Sheriff Wilson said.
